Had an emergency patient last night @8.45pm, she claimed she had a toothache which started in the upper molar area on the right side and extended to lower molars on the same side. She said she has been taking Advil every 6 hours for the last few days. She claimed she had her teeth cleaned at another office 4 months ago.
I took her particulars, reviewed her medical and did a periodontal exam, her gums in that region were so swollen and red, her pocket depths were generalised 4mm, localised 5-7mm in the posterior region, oral hygiene was fair. I completed her cleaning with hand and ultrasonic scalers AND gave her specific instructions for homecare which included regular flossing and brushing, followed by a mouthwash and frequent salt water rinses until the swelling goes down. She just called me saying how happy she is because she just ate her 1st good meal in a week, her pain is gone and her gums are not so tender any more. She will come to see me in 2 weeks for a follow up. I had suggested Periowave Laser Therapy in that area, she will decided at that time if she wants to go ahead with that option.
ANOTHER HAPPY CAMPER, ALWAYS VERY GRATIFYING WHEN YOU RECIEVE THANK YOU CALLS FROM YOUR PATIENTS, ESPECIALLY IN A CASE LIKE THIS, WHERE THE PAIN GOES AWAY. http://surreydentalhygieneclinic.com/
